Twisted FormsPosted: September 11, 2011
Dutch designer Erwin Zwiers uses plywood to create bowls and lamps, but twists strips of the material around a template he creates to produce curving, bending forms. Zwiers wraps the plywood to create steps in the design, something which could potentially be an interesting form to create for the shelter. However, a downside of this, as Zwiers comments, is that “in advance it can not be determined what form eventually will come out.”
It would be interesting to begin exploring the capabilities of sheets of plywood to see how much it can bend before cracking. This presents an opportunity to design shelters which are not as “boxy”.
